Flight Plan — Two Days at Kennedy Space Center

Pre-flight checklist

Read this bit even if you skip the rest.

Cards onlyThe whole complex has been cashless since 2025. There are cash-to-card kiosks, but that is a queue nobody wants.
Bring photo IDThey reserve the right to ask for it at the gate.
$15 to parkPer car, per day, and it is not part of the ticket.
Buses stop earlyThe last tour bus leaves roughly two and a half hours before closing, around 2:30 PM. Miss it and the Saturn V is out of reach.
It's a weekendBoth our days are Saturday and Sunday, the two busiest of the week. The 8:30 arrival on day one is not optional if we want the early bus.

8:30 AM
Arrive and park
Saturday security queues can eat half an hour. Cards ready for parking.
9:15 AM
Rocket Garden
Quietest at opening and right by the entrance.
9:50 AM
Spare time, deliberately
If we sailed through security, Heroes and Legends is a good thirty minutes. If we didn't, this is the slack that stops us running for the bus.
10:15 AM
Be at bus embarkation15 min early
KSC asks for fifteen minutes before departure. This is the one time we genuinely cannot be late.
10:30 AM
KSC Explore Tour departsbooked
Guided, with photo stops at the Vehicle Assembly Building and the NASA Press Site, ending at the Apollo/Saturn V Center.
12:30 PM
Apollo/Saturn V Center
The tour drops us here. Firing Room show first, then the rocket. This is the reason we came.
1:15 PM
Lunch at the Moon Rock Café
Inside the Apollo centre, so we keep our Saturn V time instead of spending it on a bus.
2:00 PM
Lunar Theater and Lunar Module 9
Touch the moon rock on the way out.
2:45 PM
Bus back to the main complex
Return buses run all afternoon. Only the outbound tour buses stop at 2:30.
3:15 PM
Shuttle Launch Experience
Do the ride before the orbiter. Its queue is the one thing that grows late on. Minimum height 44 inches.
3:50 PM
Space Shuttle Atlantis
Payload doors open, plus Forever Remembered. We have until closing, and we get a second run at it tomorrow.

The astronaut chat anchors the morning. Everything else moves around it.

Sunday 4 October, last bus around 2:30

Heroes and Legends
Right by the entrance and a short one. Skip it if the chat venue is further in.
9:45 AM

Find the room before we need to be in it.

Chat With An Astronautbooked
About an hour, small group, and the morning session comes with a continental breakfast. Bring questions.
11:15 AM
Standard bus tour to The Gantry
Included with admission. This is the stop the Explore Tour skips, which is why it lands today.
11:45 AM
The Gantry at LC-39
Four floors of it, with views straight out over the launch pads.
1:00 PM
Bus back
Board any returning bus once we have had enough.
1:30 PM
Lunch at the Orbit Café
Late, but breakfast at the chat covers us.
2:15 PM
Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex
Flown spacecraft downstairs, then the Spaceport KSC ride upstairs.
3:15 PM
Journey to Mars
Rover replicas and the Explorers Wanted presentation.
4:00 PM
Atlantis, second pass
Quieter late on. The simulators deserve a proper go rather than a walk-through.
